Our neighbors to the north are rolling out the welcome mat to American travelers once again. It’s been a long 16 months since Canada first implemented a travel ban, but that cold shoulder is starting to thaw.
Starting on August 9, U.S. travelers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may cross the border once again.
As a reminder, you’re considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your final vaccine dose. U.S. citizens who meet the requirement will not need to quarantine upon arrival. In addition, unvaccinated kids under 12 traveling with their vaccinated parents are okay to skip quarantine as well.
This is certainly great news, but vaccinated travelers will still face some rather strict requirements on entry. You should provide proof of a negative COVID test result taken within 72 hours of departure. You’ll also need to use the ArriveCAN app to submit your travel information, with a backup quarantine plan. Be sure to go over the entry requirements well in advance of your trip to make sure you have all the proper documentation.
Assuming this first step goes according to plan, the Canadian government says they will allow fully vaccinated travelers from all countries to travel to Canada by early September, too.
