It’s not often that we hope for more time at the airport, but you may want to schedule in a longer layover on your next trip to Singapore. Changi Airport, which has won the world’s best airport for seven consecutive years, opened its newest space, the Jewel, today and it’s setting new standards for airports across the world.
The shiny new hub, which has been under construction for four years, connects three of the four terminals at the airport. With an impressive doughnut-shaped exterior framed in steel and glass and size of a whopping 135,700-square-meters, there’s more than just a few restaurants and shops here. In fact, the Jewel boasts the world’s largest indoor waterfall, Southeast Asia’s biggest Nike store, and a 250-meter trampoline-like net where you can shake out any stiffness from the plane ride, to start. Not to mention the tens of thousands of trees and plants that fill the space offer a welcomed element of nature to the airport.
The space is set to not only be a place of respite for travelers, but also a new destination for locals with its debut of new-to-the-market shops and restaurants like Singapore’s first Shake Shack, or the first Pokemon store outside of Japan.
Just keep an eye on the clock, we have a feeling it’ll be dangerously easy to waste time at the Jewel.
