New Hotel Brand The Webster to Debut in London

Lifestyle brand The Webster has announced it will open its first property in Covent Garden this July.

Located on Lincoln’s Inn Fields square, the property will be close to both Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations, as well as popular tourist spots such as the West End and the British Museum.

The hotel joins a slew of properties opening in the capital this year, including the recently opened The Newman in Fitzrovia, and the highly anticipated Six Senses London.

Facilities at The Webster, Covent Garden

The hotel will house 167 rooms, starting at £350 a night, with the most premium offering being the Webster Studio Suites.

Facilities will include a multi-use outdoor patio space, three events spaces with the largest accommodating up to 160 guests, plus three Italian-inspired food and drink venues.

Restaurant and speakeasy Carmelina’s, located on the hotel’s lower-ground floor, will offer a modern take on traditional Italian dishes. Menu items include ricotta-stuffed courgette flowers, branzino all’acqua pazza (seabass with tomatoes), pasta dishes and tiramisu.

Carla’s List serves as the hotel’s late-night venue with music and cocktails, while coffees and aperitifs will also be offered in the lobby throughout the day.

The hotel has plans to host its own events too, including a Webster Book Club and a roving Bar Cart Experience.

Interior Design

Carmelina's

London-based design studio Red Deer, which has also worked on restaurant and bar chain St. JOHN’s in London, is behind the hotel’s interiors.

Rooms feature warm, neutral colour palettes, with lots of mixed textures. Think wooden flooring, dark wood panelling, knotted wool rugs and brass lighting fixtures, plus playful accessories such as classic alarm clocks and Marshall speakers.

Moving through to the bathrooms, guests will find terrazzo flooring and ceramic tiled walls, along with a selection of Malin+Goetz toiletries.

Public spaces, meanwhile, take on a more dramatic look. Restaurant Carmelina’s mixes red velvet upholstery with a chequerboard floor and a marble bar, while Carla’s List features dark red lamps and a shining disco ball overhead.

Taking inspiration from its setting on Lincoln’s Inn Fields – a place which Charles Dickens is said to have used for inspiration – The Webster says the hotel is also designed to appeal to “culturally curious” travellers.

As such, there will be dedicated reading nooks throughout, as well as bespoke artwork.

Future Plans

The Webster has already revealed plans to launch across the pond, with a property in New York’s Times Square scheduled to open in winter this year.

In keeping with the literary inspiration behind the London outpost, the New York property will draw on the legacy of the historic Webster Hotel which writer Gabriel García Márquez once stayed at.

Specific details are yet to be revealed, though The Webster says the property will include flexible public spaces and intimate lounges.

Hospitality group Maison Premiere, which has an oyster and absinthe bar in Brooklyn, will lead the hotel’s dining concepts.
