Shangri-La has recently launched its new ultra-luxury brand, Shangri-La Signatures, with the grand opening of its inaugural property: The Silk Lakehouse, Shangri-La Hangzhou.
Set on the shores of West Lake — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — Shangri-La says The Silk Lakehouse “ushers in a new era of Asian hospitality, where cultural heritage, artistry, and nature converge”.

“Shangri-La Signatures redefines modern luxury through cultural authenticity, intentional design, and heartfelt human connection.
Each property is envisioned as a refined private residence, brought to life through collaborations with world-renowned designers and artisans. Rooted in local heritage and guided by a philosophy of intentional design, the brand curates immersive experiences across art, wellness, gastronomy, and storytelling,” the Asian hospitality brand said in a statement.

As the first in the collection, The Silk Lakehouse “blends Jiangnan elegance with contemporary sophistication — from a crystal art installation of 1,930 hand-blown Murano glass pieces evoking the movement of willow branches on West Lake, to AI-responsive mattresses and freestanding bathtubs with panoramic lake views”.
The new property features 68 rooms and suites, and offers curated cultural experiences like Song Dynasty-style tea ceremonies, silk weaving and traditional Hangzhou incense making.

The Silk Lakehouse also offers a curation of dining experiences that celebrate the flavours and traditions of Hangzhou, including East-meets-West creations by Michelin-starred chef Alan Yu at The Living Room.
Guests can also savour traditional Longjing and Jiuqu Hongmei teas in the Song Dynasty-inspired Tea House, or explore baijiu-based cocktails at The Living Room by SANYOU, a creative collaboration with one of ‘Asia’s 50 Best Bars’.

Shanghai-born Chef Alan Yu brings international culinary expertise to The Living Room, infusing local ingredients with innovative techniques. His career spans prestigious kitchens, including Citronelle under Michel Richard, 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hongkong, and Ambré Ciel in Hangzhou, where he earned the restaurant Michelin stars. Chef Yu curate’s menus that celebrate local ingredients with international flair, offering dishes known for creativity, precision, and harmony.
Shangri-La currently owns and/or manages more than 100 hotels globally in more than 75 destinations under the Shangri-La, Shangri-La Signatures, Kerry, JEN by Shangri-La and Traders brands.
