6 Bangkok Restaurants Among Top 50 Best Restaurants in Asia

Bangkok can count a whopping 15 entries on the Asia’s 100 Best Restaurants list, with six exciting entries within the Top 50. The best restaurant in Asia is Hong Kong’s The Chairman (followed by last year’s Odette in Singapore).

Pandemic or not, overall the rankings for Bangkok restaurants are pretty high this year, with Bangkok alongside Hong Kong and Tokyo being one of the key dominators on the list.

Gaggan Anand is the highest new entry on the list, coming in at Number 5. “This is the most motivating thing in my entire life,” says chef Gaggan Anand. “With your love and support, we might survive this.” It’s interesting this year, and it’s nice to see many more new names on the list, such as Gaa and Nusara, too.

Moreover, we see Le Du really hitting it big, breaking to the fourth spot up from the eighth last year. Together with Sühring at Number 6, this puts 3 Bangkok restaurants within the Top 10.

Other accolades include the titles of Asia’s Best Pastry Chef which went to Singaporean chef Angela Lai from Tairroir in Taipei. The title of Asia’s Best Female Chef meanwhile went to chef Deaille Tam whose Shanghai restaurant, Obscura opened in November 2020.

Nine other Bangkok  restaurants also managed to make the Top 100 list. These are 80/20 (55), Samrub for Thai (59), Raan Jay Fai (62), Paste (70), Le Normandie (74), bo.lan (78), Baan Tepa (79), Nahm (80), and Quince (97).

The 2021 list is released days after the restaurants ranked from 51-100 was revealed for the first time. These lists are compiled and published by William Reed Business Media, and voted on by over 300 leaders in the culinary field from the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy. This consists of journalists, food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and culinary experts with a gender ratio that’s 50:50.
