People across the U.S. love to travel with their pets. Unfortunately, not all hotels are as welcoming as they say they are. Surveys from the past decade show that over half of U.S. hotels allow domestic pets to stay with their human guardians, including 80% of luxury chains and 79% of budget-friendly hotel brands.
If you’re planning a trip and need a pet friendly hotel, there are lots of things to keep in mind. Weight restrictions, non-refundable deposits, extra fees, and other requirements abound. Therefore, choosing the right pet friendly hotel is an essential part of travel planning when your beloved pup or kitten is set to join you.
The Most Pet Friendly Hotels in the U.S.
Whether you’re in need of an easy, affordable place to rest your head (and paws), or in the mood for some five-star pampering, there are plenty of pet friendly options out there for you and Fido!
La Quinta Inn & Suites
Located all across North America, La Quinta by Wyndham is definitely a pet-loving hotel chain. Only domestic pets – cats and dogs – are permitted to stay at La Quinta, and owners are responsible for their animals at all times. This means your pooch or kitty must be well-behaved and not disruptive to hotel staff or guests. If you aren’t in your room, your pet needs to be on-leash or in its carrier at all times.
Pet fees might be charged at check-in, though service animals are exempt from this charge (and all other restrictions related to non-service or working animals). Cat owners must provide their own litter box, and arrangements need to be made with housekeeping so that staff can clean the room while the pet is not present.
Some locations do not allow pets, and others do have a weight limit in place. Your best bet is always to call ahead before booking to get the details you need.
- Pet Fee: Ranges from $20/night to $40 maximum per stay, per room.
- Size Limitations: Check with the hotel, varies depending on location.
- Number Limitations: Two domestic pets are allowed per room.
