This year, Thailand will be the first country in ASEAN to host Japan’s music festival “Summer Sonic” and Belgium’s EDM (electronic dance music) festival “Tomorrowland”.
Summer Sonic is a large annual music festival traditionally held in Japan, featuring a mix of international and Japanese artists. It typically takes place in Tokyo and Osaka over a weekend in August, offering a diverse lineup of genres including rock, pop, electronic, and more. The festival is known for its impressive roster of performers and vibrant atmosphere, drawing fans from all over the world.
Ahead of its scheduled dates on Aug 24-25 at Impact Challenger, Muang Thong Thani, Summer Sonic Bangkok has announced more headliners, who come from both sides of the pond and beyond.
Among the recently announced headliners, the two most noticeable are American pop rock band OneRepublic and Suede, one of Britpop’s Big Four, who rose to fame in the 90s.
Suede.
Suede is best known for their nostalgic hits such as “Beautiful Ones”, “Trash” and “Animal Nitrate” and Brett Anderson’s distinctive voice while five-mand band OneRepublic’s best-known song “Apologize” earned them several award nominations. Thai fans are particularly fond of OneRepublic’s frontman Ryan Tedder, who always showed his love for Thailand during his visits and produced Lisa’s “Rockstar”.

From Japan, J-pop boy group Travis Japan will show fans why their debut song “Just Dance!” charted in the top five on Billboard’s Global Excl. US and peaked at No.4 on Billboard Japan Hot 100. Beatboxing group and world champions Sarukani and boyband Psychic Fever will also represent Japan.

Hailing from South Korea are boy band BoyNextDoor, rapper Zico and electronic rock artist Tomikita. Rock band Getsunova and singer-songwriter Phum Viphurit are the latest Thai acts to be added to the line-up after big local names such as Bodyslam and Violette Wautier were earlier announced as the first batch of Summer Sonic Bangkok headliners.
Getsunova.
If you need a reminder, the first batch includes American singer-songwriter Lauv (it’ll be his fourth headlining performance in Thailand discounting opening for Ed Sheeran in 2017), Japanese duo Yoasobi, modern Jazz artist Laufey, English rock band Nothing But Thieves, whose return will be their third show in Thailand, and Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, whose return marks her second performance in this country.
