The world’s most noted restaurant awards have returned to the City of Gold for a third year running with the launch of the Dubai Michelin Guide 2024, which was announced at a grand ceremony held at the One&Only One Za’abeel hotel.
A total of 106 restaurants have achieved a place in the prestigious awards, including Jason Atherton’s Row on 45 which became one of just four restaurants in the city to hold two Michelin stars. Found inside Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, the restaurant showcases Atherton’s signature brand of refined fine dining, which unfolds across 17 courses in three distinct ‘acts’.
Row on 45 joins Il Ristorante-Niko Romito, Stay by Yannick Alléno and Trèsind Studio in Dubai’s highly exclusive club of three-Michelin-starred restaurants.
The guide also awarded four new one-star restaurants, bringing the total of one-Michelin-starred restaurants in Dubai up to 15. These include La Dame de Pic Dubai, Anne-Sophie Pic’s UAE outpost; Orfali Bros; and Sagetsu by Tetsuya.
“Dubai is now truly recognized as an international gastronomic destination and its impressive development continues year on year,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin guides.
“Its appeal isn’t just with international travelers or local gourmets; talented chefs and restaurateurs from around the world are now also attracted by its vibrant dining scene and arrive keen to make their own mark in the city. With so many different styles of restaurants and types of cuisine, there really is something for everyone.”
Once again, however, no Dubai restaurants have managed to achieve the top accolade of three Michelin stars – an award reserved for, according to Michelin: “the superlative cooking of chefs at the peak of their profession; their cooking is elevated to an art form and some of their dishes are destined to become classics.”
The 2024 Dubai Michelin Guide also failed to build upon its Green star portfolio – a comparatively new classification, first introduced in 2021 – with no new restaurants recognized. This accolade distinguishes restaurants at the forefront of the sustainable eating movement, be it in industry-leading ethical or environmental practices. Boca, Lowe and Teible remain the city’s only Green-Michelin-starred restaurants.
The ceremony also included a number of special one-off awards, including the Sommelier Award, which went to Michael Mpofu of Celebrities by Mauro Colagreco, and Opening of the Year, which was bestowed on The Guild.
The uber-cool and stylish Il Ristorante-Niko Romito is located within the Bulgari Resort Hotel, while Row on 45 is located inside Grosvenor House, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Dubai.
