History of New Year’s Day Concert
The New Year’s Concerts in Vienna have been held in the Golden Hall (“Goldener Saal”) of the Musikverein since 1939. The first concert took place in the same year, with proceeds benefiting a Nazi charity. Since 1980, a different conductor has been chosen each year to lead the orchestra, adding a unique touch to the prestigious event.
