The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Cézanne and Renoir Looking at the World — Masterpieces from the Musée de l’Orangerie and the Musée d’Orsay
Placing the two artists’ works together, the exhibition creates a dialogue between their artworks and explores their deep friendship. Among the 52 pieces, 51 are making a debut in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) is hosting its inaugural large-scale exhibition dedicated to French Impressionist masters Paul Cézanne and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. From January 17 to May 7, 2025, visitors can explore 52 masterpieces on loan from France’s Musée de l’Orangerie and Musée d’Orsay.

Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) and Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) were pivotal figures in the Impressionist movement, each contributing uniquely to the evolution of modern art. Cézanne’s exploration of geometric simplification and optical phenomena laid the groundwork for the transition from 19th-century Impressionism to 20th-century Cubism. Renoir, celebrated for his vibrant light and saturated color, focused on people in intimate and candid compositions. Their enduring friendship and artistic dialogue significantly influenced contemporaries and successive generations of artists.

This exhibition provides a rare opportunity to appreciate a diverse selection of their works, including still lifes, portraits, and landscapes, highlighting their innovative approaches and lasting impact on the art world.
This is the first large-scale exhibition of the two Impressionist masters Cézanne and Renoir in Hong Kong, showcasing 52 masterpieces from the Musée de l’Orangerie and the Musée d’Orsay in France.
