Ancient Egypt Unveiled in Hong Kong

‘Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums’ exhibition comes to the Hong Kong Palace Museum

Did anyone else have an Ancient Egypt phase when they were young? If you did, then you’ll be excited to hear about the ‘Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums’ exhibition coming to the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Visitors will get to discover 250 relics and treasures from seven major museums in Egypt. It also includes new archaeological discoveries recently found at Saqqara, the necropolis at the ancient capital of Memphis.

The exhibition will be on view from 20 November 2025 until 31 August 2026. It also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China and Egypt’s diplomatic relations in 2026. To celebrate the exhibition, the museum is also launching an exclusive merchandise series, including its first blind box plush charms. Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the ancient world of Egypt and its mysteries at this Hong Kong Palace Museum exhibition.

Anthropoid coffin of Nhys-hwt-bity

Look forward to the largest and most comprehensive exhibition on ancient Egyptian treasures in Hong Kong. These artefacts will be displayed in Hong Kong for the first time, and many of them are only being displayed outside of Egypt for the first time. Visitors can explore four different sections.

The first section, “The Land of the Pharaohs,” is an introduction to the history of ancient Egypt and the powers that govern it, including the royal and the spiritual, as well as life and the afterlife. The next two sections, “The Legend of Tutankhamun” and “The Secrets of Saqqara,” feature relics associated with Tutankhamun and Saqqara. Finally, the last section, “Ancient Egypt and the World,” explores the interactions between Egypt and the other ancient civilisations.

One highlight from the exhibition is the colossal statue of Tutankhamun, standing at more than 2.8 metres and honouring the once-forgotten pharaoh. There will also be a colossal statue of Akhenaten, known as the “heretic” pharaoh. Other highlights include statues of the goddess Bastet, the god Anubis, as well as a scribe and a hippopotamus. There will also be a display of different cat mummies, which were part of the ancient Egyptians’ feline worship.

Beyond the exhibition, the museum is hosting talks and workshops for visitors. Opening talks on November 19 and November 20 are open for registration now. Audio tours and on-demand tours will also be available to guide visitors through the exhibit. Those with kids can check out the interactive workshops, where they can make their own ancient Egyptian jewellery, explore a pyramid, and build a cat temple. For the full list of events, check here.

Over 140 exclusive themed merchandise items, including blind box plush charms

Alongside the exhibition, the museum will also launch two new themed stores on the opening day. Visitors can check out the shops at LG/F and 4/F and bring home mementoes from the historic exhibition. The selection includes tote bags, stationery, fragrance products made in development with Rituals, and other lifestyle products, inspired by the artefacts of ancient Egypt.

The highlight of the series is the new soft toys and blind boxes. Customers can hug the blue hippo and black cat, both symbolic animals in the ancient civilisation. The Hong Kong Palace Museum is also launching its first Ancient Egypt Unveiled Blind Box Series, which features six different designs. Each one is based on well-known symbols of ancient Egypt, such as mummies, pharaohs, and canopic jars.
