Indonesian All-Girl Band Voice of Baceprot to Perform at Glastonbury Festival

The all-girl rock band Voice of Baceprot (VoB) is set to make history as the first Indonesian band to perform at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, UK, scheduled for next month.

The girls from the West Java town of Garut have secured a main stage performance at the Woodsies area in the northwest corner of the site, confirmed by the organizers.

“This year the Main Stage offers an energizing line-up spanning indie rock and pop, Irish rap, punk, metal to chart music and plenty more to get you dancing with both new and well-established acts. From Indonesian all-female rock band Voice of Baceprot, who will be kicking things off on Friday morning, to the incredible James Blake closing the stage on Sunday night, following other headline sets from Gossip and Jamie xx,” an announcement on the festival’s website reads.

VoB’s hijab-wearing trio comprises Marsya (vocals and guitar), Widi (bass), and Sitti (drums), all of whom were high schoolmates when they formed the band in Singajaya village, Garut. In the Sundanese language, “baceprot” means “noisy”.

The band announced confirmation of the Glastonbury Festival invitation in a social media post.

“We are pleased and grateful to share this exciting news with Baladceprot [nickname for VoB fans] and all parties who continue to support us and place their trust in us, that the Glastonbury Festival… has invited us,” the band said in a statement on Wednesday.

“It’s a great honor to become the first Indonesian band to perform at the Glastonbury Festival in its 54-year history, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UK.”

The weeks-long festival will feature world-class musicians such as Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, and Shania Twain.
