Ba Son, once associated with the city’s shipbuilding past, is now part of a changing riverfront district where heritage, construction sites, offices, apartments and new hospitality projects sit close together.
The hotel’s address on Ly Tu Trong Street places it near Ba Son Bridge, Little Japan Town and the commercial centre of District 1, with Tan Son Nhat International Airport about about 7.4km away.
That location makes the hotel a useful base for those who need access to District 1’s offices but would rather stay somewhere with a little more texture than the standard corporate hotel.
The riverfront is changing quickly, and Ba Son captures that in-between quality: old industrial memory on one side, a more vertical and commercially ambitious Saigon on the other.

This is the first Hotel Indigo in Vietnam, with 150 guestrooms and suites, two dining venues, complimentary wifi, a fitness centre and a rooftop pool.
The brand is built around neighbourhood storytelling, and here the Ba Son connection gives the property a more convincing foundation than most.
Throughout the public spaces, vintage photographs, locally commissioned artwork and industrial-inspired finishes reference Ba Son’s history, while contemporary furnishings keep the atmosphere fresh rather than nostalgic. The result feels distinctly local, yet polished enough for business travelers.
The scale helps. This is not a grand lobby hotel – it is sharper and more compact, a place for travelers who want an international brand but not the sameness that can come with one.
Arrival is straightforward, the public areas have enough visual interest and the hotel’s sense of place is clear without being over-explained.
The Rooms
The rooms continue the same subtle approach. Warm timber, soft tones and discreet references to the neighbourhood give the space some identity, but the better decision is restraint.
After a day outside in Ho Chi Minh City, the visual calm is much welcomed.
Food and Drink
The Shipyard and The Shipyard Upper Deck give the hotel two distinct dining settings. The former is the more casual all-day venue, while the latter takes a slightly more elevated approach to contemporary Vietnamese cooking.
Both draw from the Ba Son shipyard narrative, though the appeal for guests is more immediate: breakfast, a working lunch or a quiet dinner can all be managed without leaving the property.
That convenience matters in this city. A restaurant 15 minutes away can become a 40-minute journey at the wrong time of day, so in-house dining carries more value than it might elsewhere.
Facilities
The rooftop pool is the hotel’s standout feature. At 150m², it has more purpose than the ornamental pools found in many urban hotels, with views across the Saigon River and surrounding skyline.
The fitness centre covers the other half of the routine for travellers who prefer to keep moving while on the road.
Verdict
Hotel Indigo Saigon The City is at its best when it lets Ba Son do some of the talking. The neighbourhood gives the hotel a point of difference, while the rooms, dining options, rooftop pool and District 1 location keep it practical for business stays.
It is not the city’s most formal luxury address, and that is partly the point. For those who want convenience without anonymity, this is a polished and likeable alternative.
Best for: Business travelers who want a central Saigon base with boutique character, reliable brand standards and a stronger sense of place than a conventional corporate hotel.
